Customer Reviews for My Poetry Chapbook, "How to Fly"

This a WONDERFUL book of poetry that takes you on a complete journey from the very beginning to the very end. Ms. Davidson begins her story with the simple and brave act of purchasing a ticket that feels like " first class on a paper airplane." And indeed it is. We step into her shoes and learn exactly HOW TO FLY. A great use of words and visuals transport us through HER time, HER eyes, and HER thoughts on navigating life in a big city. Isn't that what life is? To survive and continually grow. She tells us you are the paper airplane and throwing yourself into the air (not knowing where you will go) is okay because we never truly know where we will land. Ultimately its not the destination but the journey of learning of letting go so you can be "released, unguarded...free."Read more

Beautiful collection of poems that are exquisitely written yet accessible. Many of the poems have a visual accompaniment, adding another layer of beauty, complexity and “fun” to the collection. If you have a brain and/or heart (preferably both), you will be moved and inspired by these poems. Highly recommended.

“How to Fly” was such a refreshing change from most poetry. The fluent description and storytelling made such vivid images in my mind that I felt I was right there participating or witnessing the lines. The sensory descriptions of the author’s New York City experiences are outstanding.

This book is more than just one poem after another. Using photographs and pictures, she ties them to the themes of her poems. Through her poetry, Kerri gives readers a glimpse into her life and encourages others to "fly" and follow their dreams.

For those who enjoy reading poems, Kerri Davidson's collection in "How To Fly" will delight with honesty, vivid imagery, and beautiful language. Her poems reflect, in all of us, the need to fly and find our own voice, our own dreams, and with courage, persistence, and support from loved ones, the likelihood of escaping captivity.

Kerri’s poetry uses imagery that is vivid and on the mark. The reader gets a taste of some of the sights, sounds and feeling of living in a big city. There’s a hint of loneliness, but not a drop of pity. Kerri’s lines are spare and show a quiet strength as she points to simple pleasures, like the sunshine glimpsed in a rain puddle, that make life sweet.
